As part of the 25th Anniversary of Beaver Scouting, the Newtongrange Beaver Colony have been taking part in the 25 challenges issued to Beavers to complete over the year, by the Scottish Beaver Commissioner – Eva Will

These challenges range from learning a new game, song and dance to having a visitor to the colony and going on an outing. We decided that a good way of achieving quite a few of these would be to have an outdoors fun day at Borthwick. The Newtongrange Scouts who were camping on the site,  were sent on a hike to Crichton Castle, where they got a tour and the Beavers took over.

ngrange1.jpgThroughout the day they did a hike round the woods and up to the Castle, made luminous green and blue twists to cook on the fires, and played many games and activities. Despite the gales the previous night, everybody had a really good day, and we had the sun for most of the day!

The Beavers have also made Beaver biscuits as part of their challenges, and we have had the police visit us, who let everyone try on their hats and handcuffs! Fortunately, none of the Beavers we arrested and taken away!

All the Beavers are now well on their way to completing the challenges by the end of they year, and look forward to ticking them off and keeping track of how many they have done on our big wall.
