HAMISH TAIT 1909 - 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Hamish was born in Penicuik on  7 August 1909 and died in Edinburgh on 13th April 2010 in his 101st year.

Hamish has been involved in Scouting in Penicuik and Midlothian for nearly 90 years, holding warrants for Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, Group Scoutmaster and County Commissioner. After relinquishing these duties in the mid sixties, he subsequently played an active part in the BP Guild until his death.

He has been active in all scouting activities throughout his long scouting career, heading expeditions to Norway which resulted in a lifetime relationship with one of the young men he met on the  first of these expeditions.

He has also spent a lifetime involved with curling in Penicuik and Midlothian being a member of Penicuik Curling Club and Watsonian Curling Club for some 80 years and a founder member of Chartered Surveyors Curling Club.

After a very full life, Hamish really relished  the period leading up to his 100th birthday, with many invitations for lunch, dinner and parties which he thoroughly enjoyed. He also played a very prominent part in the centenary celebrations when the Scout Group in Penicuik also celebrated  100 years. It is interesting to note that the Scout Group in Penicuik held their first meeting on 23 July 1909 some fifteen days before Hamish was born!

Hamish passed away peacefully after a very short illness lasting only a few days.
