Newtongrange and Bonnyrigg Cubs attended one of the biggest Scottish Scouting events in 2006, 500 Cubs and 300 adults came together to celebrate 90 years of Cub Scouting, and 60 years of the Fordell Firs National Activity Centre. 4800 meals, 1500 activity sessions, a helicopter photographing a large 90 made from Cubs, a stunning Opening Ceremony, Cake Cutting and huge Party, closing ceremony, and even a visit from Gordon Brown MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer - what more could you fit into a weekend!
The Saturday evening got off the ground cutting the cakes for the Cubs 90th Birthday and Fordells 60th Birthday. Then the Cubs took part in a huge party. The Sunday rounded off with more fantastic activities, and a closing ceremony for each Party Zone (Sub Camp). Until the next time..................... As soon as the Cubs arrived at Fordell Firs National Activity Centre, they knew they were in for a weekend they'd remember for a very long time. The Cubs were led around to the opening ceremony with pipers at the front. Candles and bright lights lit up the rock face behind the campfire circle, Richard Fairbairn, Camp Leader welcomed everyone to the camp and Graeme Hamilton, Scottish Commissioner for Cub Scouts, opened the camp by lighting a 90th Firework and then the campfire.
After the visit from Gordon Brown MP, the Cubs formed a 90 on the camp field, and a helicopter took an overhead photograph.
